Filed under: San Diego Zoo — Tags: — washaw @ 9:00 am

The Sunrise Stroll back in January took us to Keeper Leslie and the New Guinea singing dogs. We returned on Saturday to see the four puppies. Leslie said the 10 week olds would be getting vaccinations on Monday and then be ready to travel to their new homes. http://newguinea-singing-dog-conservation.org

Mission San Diego de Alcala

California 4th graders build models to learn about the role played by missions founded in the 1700s in the states development.  Mission San Diego de Alcala was founded on July 16, 1769 as the first of the 21 Alta California missions.  Interesting to note that the Bougainvillea decorating the grounds was first discovered just the year before, 1768, in Brazil by a French Navy admiral.

Sunset at PB from the pier

The Crystal Pier Hotel is one of the unique places in San Diego to enjoy sunset.  The Hotel is made up of a series small quaint cottages that are located directly on the Crystal Pier.   Each cottage is directly above the ocean and when a big wave hits the Pier, you can feel it, but there is nothing like sleeping over the ocean.   The interior of the cottages are well decorated with a maritime theme and they are equipped with a living room and kitchenette.   If you want to stay make reservations well in advance.

Wegeforth Bowl Show at the San Diego Zoo

Filed under: San Diego Zoo — Tags: , — washaw @ 6:00 am

The San Diego Zoo in Balboa Park, San Diego, California is one of the largest zoos in the world with over 4,000 animals of more than 800 species. It is privately operated by the nonprofit Zoological Society of San Diego on 100 acres of parkland leased from the City of San Diego, and ownership of all animals, equipment and other assets rests with the City of San Diego.

Dr. Harry Wegeforth founded the Zoological Society of San Diego, meeting October 2, 1916. The San Diego Zoo grew out of exotic animal exhibitions abandoned after the 1915 Panama-California Exposition.

Shows at the Wegeforth Bowl are free with admission.

Lantana at the Wild Animal Park

Filed under: Nature, San Diego Zoo — Tags: , — washaw @ 6:06 am

This closeup picture shows the flower of Texas Lantana growing along a path at the Wild Animal Park. Some species are invasive, and are considered to be noxious weeds, such as in South Asia, Southern Africa and Australia. Here in California they do grow like weeds but we love the beautiful flowers and are willing to spend time keeping them trimmed back.

Taco time in San Diego is anytime 24 hours a day.

The taco is an essential food in San Diego.  Each block has a place where you can buy a taco and other delicious Mexican food.  This one is in my neighborhood of Grantville.
